There’s a pub called “American Haiku”. Fits right into your theory and article.

Anyone can write haiku.

They accept any new writers.

You don’t even have to count syllables. You just have to kind of make it look like haiku.

That’s what makes it “American” haiku. Just make up the rules as you go along.
