Thank you for this thoughtful response. I wrote this, because as I was doing physical prep, I was also doing mental prep. And I had the profound sense that all people getting ready to go into surgery must do the same. And that while we always hope for the best outcome, at some realistic level we must face that the worst outcome is also indeed possible. And this is something that we all share as humans.
